Background

Nanocoatings have many uses in eyewear, the automotive industry, architecture, medical devices, communication technology and enhancing the durability or functionality of many products. Such coatings are usually directly attached to materials during manufacture thus limiting the ability to tailor the functionality to different parts of the surface, and making it difficult to reapply the coating when it has worn off the finished product. Harsh processes are also frequently involved that are not compatible with all surfaces and materials.

The Problem: Nanostructured coatings have a range of applications but current manufacturing processes are costly, complex, require expensive infrastructure and involve fabrication directly on the substrate of interest.
