Novel SARS-CoV-2 Therapeutic

Natural product with potent broad-spectrum antiviral activity

Background

Currently, the global community is fighting the SARS-CoV-2 virus. While vaccines are being deployed therapeutics are urgently needed to treat those infected. This technology has the potential to be used as an inhibitor of viral replication. This compound is broad spectrum and has activity against other viral diseases as well, including influenza, Dengue virus (DENV) and Zika virus (ZIKV).

Technology Overview

Researchers at The University of British Columbia discovered that a previously known natural product has novel activity as a broad-spectrum antiviral agent. The compound was found to be a highly effective antiviral against the UK strain of SARS-CoV-2 with an IC50 of ~800pM. In addition, low nM antiviral activity against the South African strain and the Nigerian strain
