Photovoltaic and Energy Storage for Smart Grid and Grid Edge

A tool to optimally design the Inverter Loading Ratio (ILR) for photovoltaic power plants

Background

A crucial parameter in designing a PV power plant is determining the ratio between the DC PV peak power and the AC rated power of the inverter. This is known as the Inverter Loading Ratio (ILR) of the plant. Typically, there is no clear numerical method for designing this ratio and it is usually based on empirical analysis, which does not take into account the specificity of the power plant, the variation of the energy conversion system cost or even Feed-In Tariff (FIT).
